Training the Growing Network Operations Center Workforce

Statement of Work Summary

Funding Agency: National Science Foundation

PI: Dr. Wayne Carlson

The Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design and the Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet) at The Ohio State University were funded by the National Science Foundation through the Ohio State University Research Foundation to produce a training video and workbook titled Training the Growing Network Operations Center Workforce.

The purpose of this project was to develop a set of resources for the education and training of Network Operations Center personnel related to the operation of TCP/IP networks connecting regional and national universities, organizations, etc. A training workbook was developed after investigations into the issues facing these personnel; it was supplemented with the development of a video tape that is straightforward in its presentation, coherent, complete, and accessible for training purposes. The content of these two items was determined and revised through the efforts of network engineers, video production personnel, NOC personnel and expert trainers.

The workbook and associated video have been produced by the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design, and have been either used and/or tested at the Ohio Academic Resources Network (OARnet) facilities, and at CompuServe in Columbus, Ohio. Limited quantities are available upon request by contacting the investigators. Additional quantities are available for a small duplication and shipping fee.
