Gabriel Esquivel teaches Interiors in the Department of Industrial, Interior and Visual Communication Design. Prof. Esquivel is a practicing architect, currently working on several projects in the United States and Mexico.

Gabriel Esquivel was born and educated in Mexico City at The National University and received his Master’s Degree in Architecture from The Ohio State University. Professor Esquivel’s main area of research is the application of a critical diagram in the design process, and the understanding of these critical surfaces from a sense of textuality (figuration and topology) to materiality. These  studies are manifested in the interaction between certain modelers like Form•Z® and Rhin® and the relation with another milling softwares like CNC methods for its fabrication.

His earlier professional experience comes from working in large corporate offices like NBBJ and previous teaching experience at the Knowlton School of Architecture, focusing on housing and urban landscapes. He is presently developing a program in Italy for Interior Designers as well as a Critical Surface studio with the School of Architecture.  He is developing a film and a publication with artist Stefan Bruggeman about the “Space of Nothing”.

Most recently Professor Esquivel has been nominated as a candidate for Outstanding Teaching Award by the Arts & Sciences Student Council.
