The Department of Industrial, Interior,
and Visual Communications Design played a major role
in the recent awards competition sponsored by the Columbus
Society of Communicating Arts. CSCA’s Creative
Best event, held this year at the Columbus College
of Art & Design, is the top design competition
in central Ohio, celebrating the best in local creative
design, photography, illustration, and writing.
Awards were announced on December 15, and included
OSU Design students juniors Michelle Byles (2 awards)
and Joe Harmon, and senior Gretchen Caldwell. Former
Assistant Professor and current Instructor Dave Bull
won 3 awards (one of which was designated a Judge's
Favorite), former Assistant Professor and current Instructor
Oscar Fernandez won the Best of Show honor, and Instructor
Keith Novicki won 5 awards. Graduates Dan Shust and
Peter Gerstmann were creative contributors on three
award winners, and graduate Ellie Chute is a Partner
in the firm Chute/Gerdeman, which won 3 awards. Graduates
Garrick Reischman (4 awards), Megan Graham, Courtney
Jones (3 awards), Erin Jeffries (2 awards), Kelly Seymour,
Eric Flegel (4 awards), Eric Shenk (2 awards) and Chris
Kay (2 awards) also were honored.

alumni were represented on 29 of these awards, including
4 of the 6 Student awards, 10 of the 17 Media/Interactive
awards, and 10 of the 15 Print awards, including
