Fourteen MFA graduate students from the Design Department joined a similar number of undergraduate and graduate students from the Knowlton Architecture School in a two-day workshop facilitated by well-known digital media artist Casey Reas on September 4-5, 2014.

The Department of Design seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor of Design with expertise in technical, theoretical and aesthetic concepts related to the practice of animation and its application in the development and use of various forms of time-based and interactive media. We seek an animation designer to join a collegial and diverse faculty for the instruction of undergraduate and graduate courses in visualization strategies for storytelling in time-based media at beginning and advanced levels of animation production. Applicants with knowledge of theory and the process of working with animation to explore areas that include social change and activism, scientific and data-driven information visualization, interactivity, games and gamification, mobile apps, social media, or other contemporary and emerging applications for animation practice and research are strongly encouraged to apply.

Professor R. Brian Stone delivered the keynote address at the XXXII commencement of the Universidad Americana (UAM), Managua, Nicaragua. The occasion marked the first cohort of graduates from the newly established Department of Design and Visual Communication (Diseño y Comunicación Visual). Dean Maria Fabiola Espinosa who received her MFA in Design from The Ohio State University, hooded the graduates. Professor Stone was in Nicaragua conducting a 2-week master’s seminar entitled, “Digital Strategies” at the university in July 2014.

Be sure to tune in to watch a feature on a recently completed creative project by Design Professor Jeff Haase and MFA student Kyle Wallace this week-end! A segment on their full-scale replica of the Pepinsky guest house will be featured on the “Good Day Columbus” morning show on ABC Channel 6 and Fox 28. The project is part of the “Neighborhood in Harmony with Nature: Rush Creek Village” exhibition at the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center in Worthington, Ohio. The exhibition can be enjoyed any time between now and October 26, 2014.

AIGA Educators Conference — New Ventures: Intersections in Design Education

Professor Paul Nini will be attending AIGA’s “New Ventures: Intersections in Design Education” conference in Portland, Oregon on 11-13 September 2014, where he will be moderating a panel titled “Intersections In Interdisciplinary Collaboration.” Panelists will include Ohio State Design faculty Peter Kwok Chan, Susan Melsop, and Scott Shim, as well as Dr. Miiri Kotche and Stephanie Tharp, faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
