Emily’s research centers on improving the experience of interior environments for older adults. She has identified elements of space, such as color temperature of light, that influence how older adults feel in their spaces. Her research also addresses needs in current and future senior living environments, universal design, and aging-inclusive design. She co-founded The Center for Inclusive Aging and Design Research where she researched and addressed design-related needs of the aging population. She has been published in design journals and presented at numerous academic and professional design and aging conferences.

Although originally from New Jersey, she has come to love Columbus, where she lives with her husband, son, and fluffy dog. Outside of teaching, Emily's number one priority is playing with her young son, exposing him to the joys of design! She also enjoys crafting activities and has recently learned to sew garments.
