Ohio State Design is proud to announce that recent MFA graduate Borami Kang has been selected as a 2026-2027 Design Research Fellow by Design Incubation, a nationally recognized organization dedicated to advancing design research, scholarship, and academic discourse in communication design.

Kang is one of only two individuals selected for this year's fellowship cohort. As a Design Research Fellow, she will help facilitate Design Incubation's programming, including its colloquia series, awards competition, and inaugural curated exhibitions.

A recent graduate of Ohio State's MFA program in Design Research and Development, Kang also served as a Graduate Teaching Associate in visual communication design during her studies. Prior to pursuing graduate education, she built a distinguished career spanning more than two decades in visual communication design, including brand identity design, UX/UI design, creative direction, and project management.

Kang's research examines the relationship between design education and emerging technologies, particularly the role of creative agency, authorship, and decision-making in AI-assisted design processes. Through qualitative and participatory research methods, she investigates how designers navigate responsibility, control, and ethical considerations when working with generative AI technologies.

Design Incubation's mission is to create a community where educators, practitioners, and researchers can engage in scholarly discussion, critical inquiry, and academic review of design research and practice. The organization's fellowship program was established to support academic writing and expand opportunities for research dissemination within the design community.

Borami Kang's selection as a Design Research Fellow reflects both her significant contributions to design research and the growing impact of Ohio State alumni in shaping conversations around the future of design, technology, and education.
