Global Education

At the Department of Design, we believe that great design is informed by diverse perspectives and global experiences. That’s why we offer semester-long education abroad programs that allow students to immerse themselves in new cultures, study at top international institutions, and return with a broader worldview and stronger design voice.

Studying abroad is more than travel—it’s a transformative academic and personal experience. Design students gain:

  • A global design perspective and exposure to new methodologies.
  • Enhanced cross-cultural communication and adaptability.
  • A stronger, more diverse portfolio and professional network.
  • Real-world inspiration that informs studio work and career direction.

In addition to department-specific exchange programs, Ohio State offers over 350 global education programs in 70+ countries through the Office of International Affairs. These include:

  • Faculty-led programs during breaks or semesters.
  • Third-party provider and direct enroll programs with international institutions.
  • Internships, research, service learning, and independent study abroad.
  • Short-term and long-term options, from one week to a full academic year.

Whether you're looking for a design-focused semester abroad or a short-term experience that complements your major, minor, or other travel goals, there’s a program to match your goals and schedule. Most programs offer academic credit, and many are eligible for financial aid and scholarships.
