A brief history of artificial light, the more recent technological development of electric lighting and the outcome of work by ex-NASA’s Robert Soler to create healthy lighting for the astronauts on the International Space Station. ---  Duncan Jackson has over 30 years of experience of providing industrial design services for the built environment. The work is predominately focused on B2B product development for the building industry. This includes manufacturers who provide components and systems for integration into the built environment. Much of this work is focused on transportation design and construction experience for various transit authorities, municipalities and airports worldwide. Trained as a civil engineer and furniture designer, he co-foundedBillings Jackson in 1992 to bring industrial and product design skills to the construction industry. Under hisguidance, the firm has developed a set of strategic and design skills that are unique in infrastructure design, winning over 60 awards for design excellence in urban realm project work and product development for manufacturers. Duncan has been the industrial design principal for the new New York MTA ONMY ticket vending machine which is due to be deployed in 2024. CURRENT REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS San Francisco International Airport (SFO) Wayfinding Guidance System, San Francisco, CA Duncanwas the principal industrial designer for the development of the comprehensive wayfinding system hardwarewhich includes a modular grid of both static information (maps) and flight information systems, as well asgate number flags, digital display housings, ceiling-hung signs and others. (Current)  Award WSJ Airport of the year 2022 San Francisco International Airport (SFO) Water Filling Stations,  Also included within the WGS areother customer interaction points such as bag repack stations. Duncan also led the development of the water filling station, a first-of-its-kind contactless water dispenser system comprised of various touch freetaps atop a free-standing millwork base that incorporates water supply equipment and drainage into anexisting terminal. (Current) Award WSJ Airport of the year 2022. Bios SkyView Lighting,  Duncan has led the industrial design development of the new SkyView technology by Bios Lighting. This innovation is ground breaking in so far as the work by Robert Soler has exposed the inadequacies of current artificial light as lacking fundamental light wavelengths which regulates our biology. (Current) It's Electric, Vehicle Charging,  Duncan is the principle industrial designer for the design of a new urban vehicle charging point for general application including non-designated street parking. The uptake of electric vehicles is ultimately dependent on the technological advancement of fast charging and the development of universally accessible charging points.
