Breaking Bias and Clichés in AI-Driven Visual Design

Visual Communication Design students from 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years kicked off the Spring 2025 semester with a week-long Design Charrette exploring the impact of AI-generated imagery on cultural diversity and creativity. Through critical analysis, collaborative exercises, and hybrid design approaches, students worked together to challenge stereotypes, reframe prompts, and create innovative visual solutions that champion inclusivity and originality. The event featured guest judges from local design firms, many of whom are proud alumni of the program, reinforcing the department’s strong industry connections.

This charrette exemplifies how the design program and the design field evolve alongside emerging technologies—not only adopting new tools but also critically examining their societal implications. By engaging with technology thoughtfully, designers can push boundaries, foster inclusivity, and create a future driven by innovation and human creativity.
