Rebekah Matheny Elected to Board of Directors of Color Marketing Group

Rebekah Matheny

Ohio State Design is proud to announce that Associate Professor Rebekah Matheny has been elected to the Board of Directors of Color Marketing Group® (CMG) for the 2026–2027 term. Matheny will serve as Chair of the Student Chapter Committee, a role that aligns with her deep commitment to design education and mentorship.

CMG is an international association of color design professionals that has been forecasting color directions across industries for over 60 years. Matheny’s election to the Board reflects her leadership in the field and her dedication to advancing the role of color in design practice and pedagogy.

“It has been an honor to have Ohio State chosen as the pilot school chapter, launching in 2023 and continuing in 2024,” said Matheny. “This year makes our third year participating, bringing students from all three majors to collaborate as a chapter. With this new position on the board, I look forward to bringing more student chapters into the fold. My goal is to bring in schools from across the country so that the student steering has a wide range of points of view to drive the student forecasts and influence how professionals utilize color.”

As Chair of the Student Chapter Committee, Matheny will help shape initiatives that connect students with industry professionals, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and promote the strategic use of color in design. Her involvement will also create new opportunities for Ohio State design students to engage with CMG’s global network through workshops, conferences, and mentorship programs.

Matheny’s research and teaching focus on the sensory experience of interior environments, sustainable design strategies, and the emotional impact of material and color choices. Her election to CMG’s Board underscores the value of academic voices in shaping the future of color marketing. She recently presented the outcomes from the Ohio State 2023 & 2024 Student Chapters at ASID Gather, the American Society of Interior Designers National Conference in Atlanta where she was awarded best poster presentation.

Congratulations to Rebekah Matheny on this well-deserved recognition!
