Overview

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) Design principles. Students will engage in practical exercises designed to develop skills in crafting digital interfaces that prioritize user engagement and intuitive functionality. The curriculum provides a deep dive into essential UX research methodologies, equipping students with the knowledge to construct robust information architectures. Through hands-on training, participants will learn to create detailed wireframes, flowcharts, UI style guides, and interactive prototypes, all grounded in user-centered research. This course is tailored to inspire innovation and creativity in the design of user-centric digital experiences.

Objectives

By the end of the semester, students should be able to:
  • Understand and practice color, typography, and layout design in the digital realm. 
  • Understand and apply the principles of UX/UI design and responsive web design with digital interfaces.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of usability issues and proactively address them.
  • Learn about UX research components, including conducting user interviews, creating personas, and mapping user journeys.
  • Understand how to create effective wireframes, prototypes, and perform usability tests to iterate and improve design outcomes.
  • Synthesize acquired knowledge into practical projects, manifesting proficiency in user experience research and multi-modal user interaction design.

Required equipment

  • Computer: current Mac (MacOs) or PC (Windows 10) with high-speed internet connection
  • Webcam: built-in or external webcam, fully installed and tested
  • Microphone: built-in laptop or tablet mic or external microphone
  • Other: a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) to use for BuckeyePass authentication
