Intermediate Game Design 1 introduces students to concepts for designing and prototyping digital games for entertainment, learning and social good. Students create, test, and play screen-based games developed in the course.

Overview

Introduction to concepts for designing computer games and other experiential media. 'Game Design II' is a hands-on studio course using Unity for game development. The course will provide a foundation based on analysis and deconstruction of game systems, mechanics, and experiential gameplay. Students will learn concepts for content creation and programming through modification of provided game templates and developing fully working prototypes.
 

Objectives

After completing this course students will be able to:
  • Identify patterns of interest and interaction within complex digital systems
  • Learn various development processes for creating interactive digital content
  • Create and discuss digital games in terms of goals, win/lose conditions, mechanics, and risk vs. reward schedules
  • Apply visual feedback to interactive experiential media
  • Collaborate, critique, and iterate

This is a 3 credit hour course that meets for 2:40 two days a week
