DESIGN 5191: Internship
Prereq: Grad standing, or enrollment in Design major; or permission of instructor. Repeatable to a maximum of 27 cr hrs or 3 completions.
Course Overview
Design 5191 provides students with the opportunity to gain professional experience in a design-related field. Internships must be directly related to your major and should support your academic and career goals.
Enrollment Process
To enroll in Design 5191, students must complete the Design 5191 Course Enrollment Permission Form. This form collects essential details about your internship, including:
- Internship dates and weekly hours
- Organization and supervisor information
- Position title and job responsibilities
- Whether the internship is paid or unpaid
- Number of credit hours requested (1 credit = 50 hours of effort)
Additional Requirements for International Students:
To be eligible for Curricular Practical Training (CPT), you must be enrolled in an internship course.
- Submit the Departmental Internship Form
- Once you have been added to the course, complete the CPT application via OIA.
- Your application will be routed to the Program Coordinator for approval.
Failure to follow the above instructions may result in you not receiving credit for your internship.
Credit Hour Guidelines
Credit hours are based on the duration and intensity of your internship:

Approval & Registration
Once submitted, the Program Coordinator will review your form. If approved, you will be registered for Design 5191 and receive a confirmation email.
