Foundation for Graduate Design Studies
Expectations, orientation, and available resources in the department and university. Historical and contextual groundwork of the discipline of design through the study of a broad range of contemporary and emerging research approaches.
Prereq: Design grad students only, or permission of instructor. Not open to students with credit for 6200. Repeatable to a maximum of 6 cr hrs.

Methods and Tools for Conducting Design Research
Hands-on learning experiences in using and analyzing design research methods, tools and techniques, user-centered design research (applied ethnography, contextual inquiry, evaluative research, usability) and generative design research.
Prereq: Grad standing in Design, or permission of instructor. Not open to students with credit for 6100. Repeatable to a maximum of 6 cr hrs.
DESIGN 6230
Research Through Design Studio
A studio environment in which graduate students have the opportunity to conduct thesis topic exploration and development in using research through design in the areas of digital animation and interactive media (DAIM) or design research and development (DRD).
Prereq: Grad Standing in Design MFA program. Repeatable to a maximum of 9 cr hrs.
DESIGN 6300
Exploration in Graduate Design Studies
Exploration and discovery in future-oriented domains of design practice and research. Students will practice the tools for exploration including reading, writing, making, planning, and reflection in order to establish their own research path.
Prereq: Design grad students only, or permission of instructor. Not open to students with credit for 787. Repeatable to a maximum of 6 cr hrs.
DESIGN 6430
Graduate Design Studio
Hands-on learning experiences in the studio or field. Collaborative teams work to explore, identify and/or solve problems. Topics vary depending on the opportunity for sponsored projects, emerging trends in practice and expertise of instructor.
Prereq: Grad standing in Design, or permission of instructor. Not open to students with credit for 6400. Repeatable to a maximum of 18 cr hrs.
DESIGN 6441
Co-Design Studio
This studio is an interdisciplinary, team-based, hands-on learning experience including projects, student-led events, guest lectures and discussions. Students explore both problems and solutions collaboratively through co-design approaches to an annual topic. Students learn how to plan, execute, analyze, document, and communicate co-design research findings and insights.
Prereq: Grad standing. Repeatable to a maximum of 3 cr hrs.
