Karen Lewis Lecture

Karen Lewis
January 22, 2015
All Day
105 Hayes Hall

Karen Lewis, Assistant Professor in Architecture at the Knowlton School of Architecture, will speak about her current work at the interstection of architecture, infrastructure, and graphic design. This includes her forthcoming book Graphic Design for Architects: A Manual for Visual CommunicationThe book takes the position "that all of architecture is graphic design," since the works of architects (and interior and industrial designers) are most often presented two-dimensionally through photographs, drawings, and depictions of 3D models. If this is true, then the contemporary architect and designer must recognize the impact that graphic techniques have on all aspects of their work and consider their value to both thinking and communication. The impact of representation on the ability to understand spatial ideas will be explored.
