Material is a medium. It communicates ideas, beliefs, and approaches. It compels us to think, feel, and act in specific ways while enhancing functionality and utility. Materials Experience emphasizes this role of materials as being simultaneously technical and experiential.

Valentina Rognoli, an Associate Professor at the School of Design, Politecnico di Milano, is a pioneer in Materials for Design and established an internationally recognized expertise in research and education in this field.

Professor Rognoli's research and teaching activities focus on materials for the ecological transition, DIY-Materials for social innovation and sustainability, Bio-based and bio-fabricated Materials, Materials from Waste and food Waste, Speculative Materials, tinkering with materials, Materials Driven Design method, CMF design, emerging materials experiences, and material education in the field of Design. During the lecture, she will share her expertise and passion for materials to raise awareness and sensitize professionals and future designers that materials contribute to the ecological transition thanks to their infinite and promising potentialities.
