3 Industrial Design Students Compete in 2022 IDSA Student Merit Awards
Each year, the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) hosts the Student Merit Awards (SMA) competition, which highlights the best in creativity, problem solving, and design brilliance in each of IDSA’s five North American districts. Candidates are graduating seniors who have demonstrated quality in their undergraduate work.
Senior Industrial Design Students from the Columbus College of Art & Design - CCAD, The Ohio State University, and International Center for Creativity will present their projects and portfolios before a panel of local professionals for Round 1 judging. One finalist from each school will be selected to represent our district in the National Round 2 Competition!
This year, Allison Krish, Isabella Brown, and Mae Welty will represent Ohio State during Round 1. Presentations will take place during an in-person event, free and open to the public, hosted by the IDSA student chapter at the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) on Thursday, March 24 at 6:00 pm.
Allison Krish is interested in exploring the ways in which design can be used to embed playfulness into everyday experiences. She believes that design is a tool that can be used to encourage play and interaction, both of which contribute to a person’s overall health and well being.
Isabella Brown deeply adores getting to be a designer each day because it allows her to create moments of joy for people. As she continues to grow as a professional, she hopes that wherever life takes her, she gets to continue to help spark delight through her work and to continue to make amazing things.
Mae Welty is a graduating industrial designer with a long time interest in fashion and trends. She is passionate about creating sustainable solutions and improving sensory experiences through research and development.
