Blaine Hafen earns 2nd at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum

Blaine Hafen, a senior in Industrial Design

Blaine Hafen, a senior in Industrial Design recently presented his research at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum. He has been working as an Industrial Designer on the Circle Collaborative research group on campus. The research group was founded by Design faculty Scott and Kyoung Swearingen in collaboration with ACCAD, Dr. Thrane in the department of nursing, and Dr. Kiourti in the department of nursing. The group was originally founded to provide children with mild to severe cognitive or physical limitations with a video game system that allows them to have physical collaborative gameplay interactions with family members and caregivers. Blaine's purpose on the research team was to design and iterate on the controller design in this video game system. This has involved design decisions such as the material and 3Dimensional design along with interaction with the controller. Blaine has participated in Codesign sessions as part of the group and extensively utilized SLA 3D printing for prototyping. His research earned him 2nd place in the Denman research category of Pediatric and Family Health. For more information on Blaine or this project, visit www.blainehafen.com
