The Department of Design invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position with a one-year contract and the possibility of renewal for up to three academic years.

Performance Objectives

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate studio and lecture courses.
  • Engage in innovative teaching and curriculum development.
  • Provide career advising and mentorship to students.
  • Contribute to the school, college, university, and community through service.
  • Participate actively in relevant professional organizations.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Terminal degree (MFA, MDes, PhD) in Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design, Motion and Animation Design, Interaction Design, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in articulating the fundamental principles of graphic design, including typography, imagery, and visual composition. This involves practical application, creation, and critical analysis, with the capability to work and instruct across various media.
  • Teaching experience/graduate teaching experience.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active design practice and creative research agenda.
  • Will have expertise and professional industry experience in one or more of the following areas: brand identity, typography, information design, design for good, human-centered design, interaction design, UI/UX, system design, web/app design, visual narrative, motion graphics, 2D/3D animation, computational/generative graphics, and AI-enabled design strategies and applications.
