Shadrick graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design from Elizabeth City State University and completed his graduate studies at NC State College of Design. During his graduate studies, he worked on numerous projects covering immersive mixed reality systems, user experience, user interface, and interaction design. His master's thesis focused on implementing mixed reality systems in historic house museums.
His current research focuses on design for social impact and explores how designers can leverage experiential media technology and storytelling to preserve cultural heritage, address complex societal problems, and encourage meaningful social interaction in educational and cultural environments. His work is rooted in collaborative connections with colleagues from various disciplines, including Design, Computer Science, Arts & Technology, and Statistics. Addy's life experience, cultural heritage, and moral compass are influential factors that guide his research focus. His creative work explores the use of virtual and augmented reality systems to create educational experiences that preserve cultural heritage and highlight social injustice.
He is currently teaching a graduate course at the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) on Designing Immersive Virtual Environments and an undergraduate course in the Visual Communication Department focused on motion graphics and future media possibilities.
