The Verge

The Verge is an innovative health and wellness facility located in the heart Franklinton. Designed to address the significant health disparities faced by its residents, this project transforms a former engine house into a multi-use space focused on movement, nutrition, and community. By incorporating elements of biophilic design, The Verge promotes the healing benefits of nature while encouraging active lifestyles and fostering social connections. The facility is divided into distinct zones, each dedicated to a specific aspect of health: a movement zone for physical activity, a nutrition-focused garden and cafe, a creative zone for artistic exploration, and restorative space for relaxation and community engagement.

The Verge recognizes the importance of addressing the social determinants of health by creating an environment that is inclusive, non-clinical, and welcoming. With a focus on providing year-round access to health-promoting activities, it oFers opportunities for individuals to engage in fitness, creative arts, and social interaction, helping to reduce the barriers of healthcare access, food insecurity, and social isolation. By shifting the focus from traditional clinical care to lifestyle factors that contribute to 80% of health outcomes, The Verge empowers residents to take control of their well-being and lays the groundwork for a healthier future.
