buddy box is a safe, online creative space and monthly subscription service that encourages children to engage in physical art-making and play. The free app is built to support content for kids, by kids. The monthly, fifteen-dollar subscription box contains supplemental items that foster creativity and exploration.

When given the monthly challenge prompt, kids are encouraged to express their creativity and use materials commonly found in the home to produce their artwork. The items in the subscription box can be used to transform everyday items, such as cardboard tubes or egg cartons, into imaginative solutions. With the augmented reality camera, kids can apply digital stickers or different backgrounds to their work, then capture photos or videos. These can be submitted, giving kids a chance to see their work featured on the subscription box.

Passive play on digital devices has all but eliminated the magic of everyday items; buddy box seeks to bring it back.

Chloe Stebelton

Chloe Stebelton is a 2019 summa cum laude graduate of the Visual Communication Design program at The Ohio State University. She plans to start her own business and to use her skills in design research and system development to provide comprehensive, user-centered solutions.

Chloe’s love for design began with a passion for film. When not hunched over her Macbook, she can be found rewatching the same old action movies that lead her to visual communication design in the first place.
