The Buzz: Coffee Connecting Community

The Buzz: Coffee Connecting Community

Interior Design, 2016

Currently in Franklinton, the redevelopment has stalled, main gathering spaces are still very limited, and the communities of people are divided in the area. Even as the “artist” population grows, there’s a sense of disconnect and detachment from the existing “residential” population. How can progress be facilitated? How can the populations connect in a space that also draws interest from external commuters? The Buzz is a space encouraging the fusion of community over coffee, integrating the artisan craft of coffee bean roasting with the spirit and richness of Franklinton in order to determine a solid sense of place. By establishing a connection to the symbolism of a beehive as a community hub, the space promotes a united municipality, working and growing together.  Coffee houses are known community “third spaces”, spaces aside from home and work, where patrons can relax and meet. In turn they act as a catalyst for continuing redevelopment in the growing neighborhood. The Buzz: where caffeine and conversation are endlessly flowing.
