Casulo Cove

Interior Design, 2022
Casulo Cove is a combination of many progressive approaches to education, designed to combat educational struggles – like low graduation rates, illiteracy, and below average test scores - in the Franklinton area, just outside of the academic-driven city of Columbus. By blending principles of preschool and childcare with quality, current education methods, the learning center serves to meet the needs of Franklinton’s 2- to 6-year-olds and their guardians.
While providing a safe space for children to focus on learning aside from their unique or challenging life circumstances, Casulo Cove aims to support its students on their journeys toward self-discovery with independent educational opportunities. Through these efforts, the learning center hopes to emphasize the power of community in reaching one’s fullest individual potential, but the primary goal is to spark a love for learning that will carry into each student’s future academic career and ultimately transform the future of the Franklinton community.
Mikayla Hernandez is a 2022 graduate of Ohio State’s Interior Design program with a passion for creating intentional spaces that meet users where they are, allowing them to feel cared for by the built environment. Building from research, she loves to develop thoughtful design strategies that infuse a project’s context, special considerations, and end goals into the final design. She is thrilled to pursue her passions and apply hands-on work experience to her post-grad career.
