The Buffalo Trailblazers is a Major League Baseball team located in Buffalo, New York. It’s a team made for the fans. The team’s purpose is to bring together the people of Buffalo by providing a baseball team to rally around, evoke pride, and build community.

Fan App: A mobile app designed for fans. The app merges the traditional features found in team apps with interactive elements aimed at enhancing fan engagement and encouraging users to return for more content and experiences.

Social Graphics: Social graphics are simple and minimal in nature, utilizing player cutouts, typography, and graphic elements to highlight and bring all the attention to the main subject of the graphic.

First Pitch Club: The Trailblazers honor exceptional fans who show extraordinary passion for the team and strong support for Buffalo. Selected fans will throw the first pitch and sign a baseball displayed on the First Pitch Club wall—a special tribute for all Trailblazers fans to enjoy during home games.

First Game Wall: To honor fans attending their first game, the Trailblazers have dedicated areas of the stadium with large murals where fans can leave their signatures as a lasting tribute to their experience.

Merchandise: Designed for fans to feel connected with the Trailblazers team and show their passion and pride for the team to others.

Buffalo Trailblazers

The Buffalo Trailblazers is a new Major League Baseball team based in Buffalo, New York, designed with the fans at the heart of its identity. My project aimed to translate the unique passion and pride Buffalonians have for their city and sports teams into a visual identity that resonates with the community. Through interviews, surveys, collaging activities, and media scans of both Major League Baseball and Buffalo-specific teams, I gained insights into the deep connection locals and fans have with their teams. This research revealed the significance of pride, unity, and community in the city’s sports culture, guiding my design process.

The goal was to create a visual identity that embodies Buffalo’s spirit while connecting with the fanbase on a personal level. Each deliverable, from social graphics celebrating player milestones to interactive elements in the ballpark, was crafted to enhance fan involvement and create a sense of belonging. The Buffalo Trailblazers are more than just a baseball team; they are a symbol of unity, pride, and community for the people of Buffalo. Every aspect of the project was designed with the fan in mind, ensuring the team is something for the entire city to rally around and celebrate.

Delaney Brown is a Visual Communication Designer with a passion for sports, sports photography, and visual design. She has interned with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Ohio State Athletics, and other organizations, where she gained experience managing multiple projects in fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail. She hopes to continue working in the sports industry after her graduation in May 2025.
