Embrace: Using Autoethnography in Animation to Strengthen the Asexual Community

Abstract:
Latesha Merkel is an MFA student who will graduate in July of 2021 from the Digital Animation and Interactive Media (DAIM) track within the Ohio State University’s Department of Design. While she is currently focused on finishing up her thesis animation, she has worked in a variety of art-related fields both as part of a team and in more individual, freelance capacities, such as illustrating for children’s books and creating visuals for independent films. She highly values the power of stories and seeks to continue her research into the unique capability of visual narrative in affecting viewers and creating social change.
