The Franklinton Bodega

The Franklinton Bodega

Lindsay Secrest

Interior Design, 2022

Franklinton is a food desert. There are no established grocery stores in the area. Many residents use local transportation and remain in the area for work, making the access to fresh food and produce almost impossible.  The Franklinton Bodega creates a space where people of all ethnicities, social classes and varying identities can collide. The space hosts an ongoing block party for the neighborhood.

Located just west of downtown Columbus, OH, Franklinton has a rich history of hospitality and hardship. The East and West have been divided by a major highway. The West is home to a generational legacy and is separated from the growing East. Driving down W Rich St, one would quickly see the divide. The Franklinton Bodega joins other local nonprofits in creating a metaphorical bridge between the East and West, the space promotes wellness of the mind, body, soul and spirit.
