Franklinton Fabrix: Community Fashion Maker’s Space

Franklinton Fabrix: Community Fashion Maker’s Space

Olivia Forsyth

Interior Design, 2021

My capstone project concept evolved from my personal belief that every individual has vast creative capacities and that unequal distribution of opportunity (as opposed to lack of raw talent) hinders some individuals from expressing themselves. While the Franklinton neighborhood has recently experienced a surge in development and boasts a newly established “arts district”, many long-time residents have yet to experience these benefits. In response, I propose Franklinton Fabrix— a multigenerational fashion-oriented maker’s space. As Columbus continues to climb as a national leader in the fashion industry, Franklinton residents would benefit from a local connection to the industry pipeline. My proposal addresses the importance of sustainable fashion and highlights the potential socio-economic prospects of DIY and entrepreneurial innovation in this marginalized neighborhood.
