Gatefold

Gatefold

Mark Oxier

Visual Communication Design, 2016

Gatefold is a digital interface that aims to revive and reinvent the visual experience that once accompanied tangible forms of music, like CDs and vinyl records.

Gatefold consists of a simple design and development application, used to create digital “booklets.” These booklets are then embedded within the Spotify platform. A listener simply clicks on the Gatefold icon next to an album that they are listening to, to reveal a horizontally and vertically scrolling interface full of kinetic and interactive artwork, lyrics, liner notes, embedded video, and bonus content.

This project uses the Black Keys’ Turn Blue as a case study to demonstrate the capabilities of the Gatefold system.
