The Franklinton neighborhood is a hotspot for infant mortality. Infant mortality refers to the death of a child before they turn one year of age. There are 15.2 infant deaths per 1,000 live births in Franklinton. Additionally, 15.4% of babies have a low birth weight.
The Hope Maternal Center is a project that is designed to embrace and nurture Life. The goal of this project is to reduce the infant mortality rates in Franklinton. It is designed to serve women who are unable to afford or do not have enough access to the medical treatment they need.
Support and assistance are offered to women during and after their pregnancy. The place is designed to offer both mental and physical assistance to mothers in need. It also offers opportunities for community building and connections. Allows the mothers to share and learn with each other.
Mengna Dong is originally from Fuzhou, China. Mengna Dong is a part of the Ohio State University Interior Design Class of 2022. She is interested in residential and healthcare design. She believed that the ability of design can improve human living conditions and human-centered design. With the education she gained from learning at the OSU, she is ready for future challenges and brings on her skill and knowledge into the professional design field.
