Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Patient Transport Ventilation Redesign

In collaboration with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and the Osu BiomedicalEngineering Team, Ohio State Industrial Design student’s were presented the opportunity to design a solution that will achieve a more efficient and user friendly experience through the implementation of transport ventilators. The objective will account for the comfort and success of the patient and associated stakeholders consisting of Nurse Practitioners, RespiratoryTherapists, and Physicians.Vent2is a transport ventilation cart that will accompany medical staff during an intra-hospital patient transportation. Vent2was designed to anchor into exposed footboard insert ports with an implemented guide rail enabling the cart to move in unison with the hospital bed. The guide rail implements a tube and cord track system along with designated placement locations to encompass two oxygen tanks, an oxygen cord and management hook, and an above platform to fasten and secure the, patient connected, transport ventilator.
