Intertwining Desks for a Flexible Lab Space
Sophie Stefanski
Industrial Design, 2023
Created for the Digital Public Participation lab, the intertwining desks are a set of tables that configure to support a variety of work scenarios and group sizes. Currently unfurnished, the DPP lab needed a table that could work for all of its users— middle school classes and adult community members alike. Four shaped tables come together to form a surface over 8 feet long, or pull apart to become desks for individuals and small groups. The desks are easily and inexpensively produced, made of flat wood tops and standard legs. Modular forms make creativity and flexibility key attributes of the room. A step forward in the project’s development, the intertwining desks hope to empower users to joyfully explore the emerging technologies offered by the DPP lab.
