LIVE ON BROAD
Kassidy Young
Interior Design, 2020
From the very start of this project the inspiration was the thought of a little boy or girl in an empty room. In Franklinton Oh there are many emerging resources for housing. While housing might be attainable the creation of a home is something else entirely. LIVE ON BROAD seeks to honor the common desire of home, while recognizing that the place where you live isn’t the extent of it. LIVE ON BROAD provides resources for West Franklinton residents that allow them to furnish their homes. The residents are the clients and get to have a say in what goes into their space. A luxury that many people take for granted. It is important that everything meant to enhance a community not be entirely utilitarian.
LIVE ON BROAD provides design and furniture resources, spaces for community organizing, classes, and making. It also provides an event venue for West Franklinton residents so they do not have to travel outside of their community to celebrate or mark momentous occasions. LIVE ON BROAD is a home away from home, a place intended to encourage community gathering, personal development, and the impact of design thinking on everyday life.
Kassidy Young is a senior of the Class of 2020 in the Interior Design Program at The Ohio State University. She is also a full-time employee, and a mom. She is enthusiastic and hopeful about her future in the design industry and looking forward to watching the definition and scope of design change throughout her career. Kassidy enjoys experiential design, hospitality design, branding and marketing, materiality, and trend forecasting. She hopes to one day work with luxury hotel brands that help design experiences for customer loyalty, be a creative director, work in design sales, and become a trend forecaster. Kassidy hopes to encourage other non-traditional students and let them know that “nothing can stop your dreams. It doesn’t matter if you’re a minority, or older than a traditional college student, or a mom. If you wake up every day and take one small step towards the finish line then one day you will get there.”
