The Playground - A Community hub for parents and children with all abilities
Dedicated to Franklinton and the vibrant ambiance of Columbus, its neighborhoods, coffee shops, art, and people, this vision addresses a critical need within the community. Franklinton requires more than just another building—it needs a space that embodies care, connection, and inclusivity. A place where children with disabilities, ages 3 to 18 years old and their families can find trust, support, and belonging.
The Playground is an innovative community hub designed for the care of children and youth with all abilities. Located in Franklinton, it serves both local residents and the broader Columbus community as a nurturing center for caretakers and children facing physical and cognitive challenges. With 23.5% of Ohio children ages 18 and younger having at least one disability, even simple daily tasks can become overwhelming.
This hub supports daily tasks with excitement, patience, and understanding. Through innovative programming, it offers a space to learn, grow, and thrive in a supportive environment.
More than just a building, it serves as a bridge within Columbus, fostering community and connection. It is a commitment to a future where every child and family feels empowered, included, and celebrated.
No task is too small or too big when it comes to supporting and caring for those around you.
The Playground to Franklinton extends more on the artistic expression, sensory engagement, and a flexibility in developing a neighborhood layout with a natural flow from one area to another within the building bringing community in. A neighborhood layout encourages free movement and separates ages or space between staff, caregivers, youth, toddlers, pre-teens and high schoolers in a unique way that embodies togetherness.
