The Midway House

Interior Design, 2021
After serving their sentences in prison, convicted men are met with hardship and discrimination as they try to re-enter society. The Midway House bridges the gap between the release from prison and the re-acclimation to public life by providing transitional housing for post-incarcerated men. Located in Franklinton, Ohio, the Midway House is an adaptive reuse space that turns a vacated engine house into a home for ten men. The peer support that the residences receive from one another is vital to this transitory time period. While the ultimate goal of the Midway House is to provide housing, the project also partners with local nonprofits to provide counseling, substance abuse treatment, education, and job placement to empower these men to take new adjacency in their lives.
