Ripple Community Jukebox offers a new way for artists, DJs, and music enthusiasts alike to creatively contribute and showcase their work in the Short North Arts District.
When gig economy workers' opportunities disappeared at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, they didn't stop making and sharing music. Ripple's open contribution platform invites people in Columbus to submit their own albums, songs, DJ mixes, or playlists to be streamed throughout the Short North.
Ripple celebrates expression, not censorship. The jukeboxes operate like old-fashion jukeboxes, meaning guests get to pay to pick the music. However, admin at participating jukebox locations has the option to gently filter their jukebox's collection by mood, in order to maintain their desired atmosphere.
Nadia Ayad constantly challenges herself to rethink the ways the built environment and public programs can best serve people in the most respectful and appropriate way. Nadia is also a DJ and sees the potential for a better representation of music creatives from the Midwest. She recently co-founded and launched Verge.FM, an online radio station that streams from 934 Gallery here in Columbus.
