The Roam brand intends to speak to the people who are longing for a way to occasionally disconnect. It is my hope that as people learn about Roam's purpose, they will be inspired to enjoy some of their moments free from the interruptions of ringtones and notifications.

Roam's concept was developed after a robust research phase regarding how our society's incessant use of technology is negatively affecting our relationships. The Roam device aims to minimize this by giving users the option to use an alternative to their smartphone during times when they don't need or want to be so connected. Roam can tell the time, make outgoing calls, and receive very minimal notifications.

The Roam device stays in contact with the user's smartphone through a mobile app, so their phone can stay at home. The user can select a few "Priority Contacts," which helps eliminate trivial distractions that could prevent them from enjoying the present. Outgoing calls can be made exclusively to Priority Contacts or 911, and only the user's Priority Contacts can send alerts to the device. Additionally, automated text messages from the Roam device keep the rest of the user's Non-Priority Contacts in the loop so they know when the user is Roaming and can’t reply.
