The Root: Urban Kitchen

The Root: Urban Kitchen

Interior Design, 2016

The Root is my proposal to reinvigorate the Franklinton neighborhood with locally sourced food directly from local farms, and create a market experience that promotes healthy eating.

The Root is a local market that provides educational cooking classes and prepared healthy food choices in a café style environment. The aim is to create a space that the community can gather and learn about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, through cooking and nutritional education. It is a one-stop shop for organic, fresh foods.

How can one market influence a healthy change of life? Buying local produce and supporting local farms is one way to start because of the better quality food. An ideal location for this type of market is Firehouse Ten, located on Broad Street. The former engine house is just minutes away from downtown Columbus. People can access it by foot, bike, car, or bus.

A healthy lifestyle can make a difference for individuals and by extension a community’s overall health. The program designed for The Root is intended to help bring this community together through healthy eating and education.
