Seeding Change
Allison Fisk
Interior Design, 2015
In partnership with Grant Medical Center, Seeding Change utilizes the holistic practice of horticulture therapy to rejuvenate the mind, body, and spirit through direct engagement with natural elements, plant materials, and atmospheric rhythms of everyday life. Evidence-based research indicates that horticulture therapy “stimulates the production of serotonin, which relieves stress and promotes a sense of well-being.” Patients undergoing cancer treatment at all intensities benefit greatly from the sensory experience the natural environment provides. The interior space is designed to support a healing community, expose patients to natural materials and earth-tone colors, and incorporate an abundance of natural light. All in all, patients will have the opportunity to learn new skills through the therapeutic growing process that can be used to better their lifestyle beyond treatment.
Allison Fisk is a graduating senior achieving a Bachelor of Science in Interior Space Design. At the start of her career, she has completed design internships with Judith Politi Interior Design and the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation. After graduation, she plans to enter into healthcare design to fulfill her passion of supporting and helping others.
