The Silver Lining is an inspiring interactive art therapy center where it stimulates the sensory systems for older adults. Increasing populations of sensory-disability in seniors and a lack of community center in Franklinton County became the element of design to create this new type of senior community center that addresses the problems through the sensory stimulation and creative making. The growing local artists is the catalyst to engage with older adults to support the sensory loss through the art therapy programs such as the art studio, tactile interactive installation, visual and melody therapy and food therapy, and both user share common goals of community, expressive creativity, health and longevity together.
Herika Kim, a senior interior design student at The Ohio State University, has been focused on the exploration of five-sense design approach. Beyond aesthetic application of artistic contexts, she has a keen interest in vitalizing five sense into design concepts of practical and communal space. Based on her global education and internship experiences, she wants to become a designer who proposes a unique and aggregated experience that maximizes functions of all five senses to her audiences.
