YOUnique is a community center that serves to stimulate the creative process while fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts and the Franklinton community. It draws on the makers movement emerging in the surrounding area and addresses the critical need for a youth-based art center. Research indicates that curricular and extracurricular art studies not only help to keep at-risk students in school but are critical in the maturation of the adolescent brain. With large spaces conducive to the development of gross motor skills, YOUnique aims to motivate individuals to express their creativity through a variety of art mediums. Large windows and a center light well allow for visual access to green elements and natural light to illuminate the creative process. It’s authentic. It’s collaborative. It’s YOUnique.
