Prerequisite: Admission to Bachelor of Science in Design - Industrial Design program; or permission of instructor.

Overview

This is an intermediate level course on design media for industrial design , with lecture and studio components. Lecture will focus on current 3D design media and their use in industrial design practice. Studio exercises will augment lecture content through hands-on exercises. Students will be able to apply the principles and methods developed in these lectures and studio exercises to strategically create compelling visuals in support of any design effort. Knowledge and skills obtained throughout the course have applications in higher-level industrial design courses and in the field of design.
 

Objectives

By the end of the course:
  • Students will understand the essential concepts of 3D modeling
  • Students will understand the essential concepts of 3D rendering
  • Students will know how to appropriately and strategically integrate 3D design media into a design effort
  • Students will know how to participate in an facilitate a design team environment
