Industrial Design, 2022
13,000,000,000 tons of furniture is thrown out, each year. Furn aims to help minimize this number by designing and selling additive manufactured pieces of furniture. In collaboration with Cincinnati Inc. and the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence, I designed a business which allows customers to easily customize and purchase pieces of furniture. It gets delivered to them then after it is used and loved for some time we will pick it back up, grind it down and print it into something new.
Furn aims to disrupt the furniture industry by operating on a closed-loop system. Designers will submit furniture designs then when somebody purchases one of their designs, they will get a commission. We will then print their design (with whatever customizations were added) then deliver it to the customer. For this project a UI/UX was designed as well as a sample piece of furniture which was printed to scale on Cincinnati Inc’s Big Area Additive Manufacturing (BAAM) Machine.
