On February 20th, the Visual Communication Design second-year undergraduate students and graduate students, along with select faculty, staff, and from the Department of Design attended a special lecture presentation at the Thompson Library Special Collections Reading Room. Jim Sherraden, owner and master printer of Hatch Show Print, utilized the OSU Curtiss Show Print collection (blocks, posters, heralds, and tickets) as reference materials to share his experience and knowledge of letterpress printmaking with the group. Nena Couch (Head, Thompson Library Special Collections) organized this special event and provided background information about the Curtiss Show Print collection.
Congratulations to Professor Mary Anne Beecher and Professor Maria Palazzi for receiving a $15,000 “Arts & Humanities Larger Grant: Continuing and Completion” from the OSU College of Arts and Sciences. The awarded proposal, entitled “From Mediated Experience to Sense of Place: Seeding the Campus Environment to Reveal Hidden Stories,” will expand an on-going multidisciplinary collaborative effort to research, document and share the many histories of The Ohio State University’s recently renovated Sullivant Hall.
Daniel Alenquer, Strategic Design Director at ASUS will be visiting the Department of Design 20-23 January 2015. He will be here to kick-off a collaborative design studio with the VC Seniors in Interaction Design. Daniel is responsible for building the strategic and design direction of the ASUS Design Innovation Center in Taipei and Singapore. Daniel received his MFA in Design from The Ohio State University in 2003.
